“Arriving on foot in the night and armed with a bow, hieratic warrior women perform the Kyodo, a formal traditional Japanese archery ceremony. Later, these amazons cross swords on their mount, weapons held high. Then, like whirling dervishes, orange robes unfurled, in amongst a wild cavalcade of young horses (…).
The Voie de l'Ecuyer combines the art of dressage, dance, song, music and fencing. Classic rigour tempered with hints of baroque. (…) The Académie is Bartabas’ secret garden, where young people’s vocations blossom thanks to the transfer of knowledge, the confrontation of other worlds, other disciplines, and this intensely close bond with the animal.

Here, the relationship between man – or rather woman – and horse is balanced, totally fulfilled in and infectious happiness, not forgetting education… As a solo, quartet or octet, these artists trace figures varying from simplicity to virtuosity. In the chiaroscuro of expressionist lighting, the scenes resemble paintings by Gericault and Delacroix. Indeed, there is both attention to detail and group movement. (…)”
